Sexual Orientation

Sexual Orientation

We value all our students, staff and visitors equally, regardless of sexual orientation, and want to create an environment in which everyone, whatever their sexuality, feels equally welcome and valued.

We're also proud to be a Stonewall Scotland Diversity Champion. This gives us access to best practice in policy and procedure development, networking opportunities with other organisations, and the opportunity to benchmark ourselves against competitors. It also highlights our commitment to equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) staff and students, and potential staff and students.

LGBT History Month

Every February, the college joins the rest of the UK in marking Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) History Month.

In spite of advances in LGBT rights in the last few years, we still have a long way to go before we achieve equality.

Worldwide, there are still seven countries where homosexuality is punishable with the death penalty and a further 70 where citizens can be imprisoned because of their sexual orientation.

In the UK, transgender people are more likely to experience harassment and abuse, and studies of the education system suggest that bullying is widespread amongst transgender students.

City of Glasgow College will be marking LGBT History Month with a series of events and activities with which both staff and students are encouraged to get involved.
