Overview

This course teaches you the skills and knowledge needed for potential career opportunities within the Health and Care Sector, within the NHS/Private Health sector and across the Care Sector. The course provides two optional routes for Administrative support workers and for Clinical support workers, in particular those wishing a recognised entry qualification for nurse training. The course also offers practical experience, including a mandatory workplace element.

 

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • Two Higher at Grade C or above, English preferable; OR
  • Relevant industry experience and qualifications.

You will be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you are interested in this subject. You will also need to provide two references, one must be from your most recent educational provider (if you're in education) or employer and a PVG check.

  • Sociology.
  • Principles of Professional Practice.
  • Safe Working Practice.
  • Learning Through Practice (involves a placement).
  • Hospital Patient Administration.
  • Understanding Personal and Professional Development.
  • Work Based Graded Unit (work based).

There are two option routes

  • Clinical route - Physiology for Care Professionals/Essential Skills for Care Practice (involves a placement).
  • Administrative – Range of ICT skills/ medical terminology.

 

After the course

Careers

Successful students can progress to degree courses in related areas:

  • Nurse training (adult, child, mental health, or learning disability).
  • You can also apply for BA Education and Social Services (in conjunction with Strathclyde University), or
  • BA Integrated Public Services (run with UWS).

You can apply for other degree courses, according to their entry criteria.

Continuing study

This course can lead to various careers within the care or administrative sector, within the private and public sectors.
