Overview

This course provides the opportunity to achieve a professional qualification in facial treatment. It will enable you to develop the skills of skin analysis, the use of appropriate products, and the application of a professional treatment, incorporating a full facial massage routine. 

This is a practical unit and you are required to wear a salon tunic and trousers.

 

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • You don’t need any formal qualifications or experience for this course; however you’ll need to study and practice at home for the written and practical assessments. 
  • If English is not your first language you must provide evidence that you have achieved ESOL level 2 or equivalent.

 

What you study

Students will study

  • The structure and functions of the skin, facial bones and facial muscles.
  • Analysing the skin.
  • Selecting appropriate products to reflect the client’s skin type and condition.
  • Developing practical skills of cleansing, toning and moisturising. 
  • Professional facial massage incorporating lymphatic drainage techniques.
  • Evaluation techniques.

After the course

Careers

  • There may be employment opportunities in the beauty industry, administering facial treatments, and also in skin care retailing.
  • Self-employment.
