Overview

This is a class aimed at anyone who wishes to learn more about good quality Scottish produce and traditional meals.

The lecturer will take you through various dishes from starters to desserts and give you the chance to update your cooking skills and knife work at the same time. On completion of the course, you will have a range of dishes and presentation ideas fit to hold a dinner party with your friends. Lots of tips will also be given on how to store your finished dishes.

Each week your lecturer will hand out a recipe which will provide your list of ingredients you need to buy for the following week.

Minimum entry requirements

No minimum entry requirements.  This is a fun leisure class for amateur cooks to learn different cookery styles and skills.

What you study

A variety of popular dishes including:

  • Cullen Skink.
  • Beef Olives.
  • Rumbledethumps.
  • Oatcakes.
  • Crannachan.

It provides a great opportunity to progress onto one of our many other courses.

Teaching

How the course is taught

  • The first night will be a practical demonstration by the lecturer and recipes will be issued.
  • You will be required to buy ingredients to bring in with you every week.
  • There will be lecturer led demonstrations every week and also the chance to ask any questions and taste the food.

Materials

All kitchen equipment is provided.  You will need to remember containers to take your food home in each week.

Dress code

Appropriate clothing and footwear for the kitchen.

Apron to protect your clothing.

Tea towel for drying dishes.
