Careers at sea showcased at open day

Scotland’s Super College is giving aspiring seafarers the chance to meet prospective employers from across the maritime industry at its annual Merchant Navy Open Day.

The all-day event is aimed at prospective students who are interested in a career at sea, contemplating a change of profession, or thinking of advancing their role within the Merchant Navy.

Teaching staff from the Faculty of Nautical Studies, together with recruitment and training representatives from major British shipping companies, will be on hand to share their experience and expertise.

Nicola Crawford, Director for the Faculty of Nautical Studies, said:

“Our annual Merchant Navy Open Day offers a fantastic opportunity for the ambitious and talented seafarers of the future to meet representatives from the nautical industry and make essential connections.

“Being able to speak directly to current cadets and future employers’ gives potential students an insight into what a maritime career has to offer. It’s also a great chance for them to see round the state of the art facilities and accommodation available to students at our Riverside campus.”

This year the event will also focus on gender equality within the maritime industry and, in keeping with City of Glasgow College’s ongoing commitment to addressing the gender imbalance across many sectors, the Open Day will feature a Women-into-Maritime stand with female cadets on hand to share their experience and expertise.

Merchant Navy Open Day 2017 takes place on Saturday 18 November, at the college’s award-winning Riverside Campus, from 9.30am to 3.45pm.
