Seventeen students have been selected to represent City of Glasgow College at this year’s WorldSkills UK National Skills Show in Birmingham.

They are now undergoing an intensive skills development and training programme which includes boot camps to mentally prepare the students for the competition finals in November.

Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive of City of Glasgow College, said:

“I am delighted that our college is once again fielding such a strong team which benefits from the high level of coaching ability and experience within our WorldSkills Academy. I wish our students every success as they continue to prepare for the UK’s largest and most prestigious skills and careers competition.”

Margaret Darroch, Head of Skills Academy & Development at the College, said:

“Our WorldSkills Academy provides our students with the training, support and motivation they need to take part in these competitions. They have achieved their place at the UK Skills Show through hard work, determination and high levels of resilience and these final few weeks of coaching and fine-tuning help boost both confidence and skills levels.”

Team City will face three intense days of competition across core disciplines which include patisserie, culinary art and restaurant service; wall and floor tiling and stonemasonry; IT skills, 3D Games, gym and fitness training. In addition, two of our competitors – Nicolle Finnie, Culinary Art and Chanel Roderickson, Beauty - have been invited to join the Squad UK Shortlist for WorldSkills Kazan 2019 which will take place at this year’s Skills Show.

A total of 59 top apprentices and students from Scotland will compete at the UK National Skills Show which runs over three days from Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 November, at Birmingham’s NEC.
