Partnership with The Open University opens up local learning routes

The college has launched a partnership with the Open University in Scotland to
give people access to one of the most flexible and comprehensive learning packages.

The partnership links the college’s suite of higher education qualifications to The Open University’s extensive range of courses and qualifications to create progression routes between the two learning providers.

This means local people will be able to benefit from multi-optional learning programmes that offer a range of ways to develop skills at the different stages in their lives.

Cabinet Secretary endorses launch

Today sees the official launch of City of Glasgow College’s new Merger and Partnership Research Centre. Michael Russell MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, has lent his support for the college’s latest innovation, acknowledging the pathfinder status of the new merger.

The centre has been created following the resounding success of Scotland’s first ever three-way college merger that formed City of Glasgow College on September 1, 2010.

Scots first as college joins parents' council

City of Glasgow College has became the first further education institution to join the Scottish Parent Teacher Council. Scotland’s largest college signed an agreement with the national body for parents’ groups in schools to build awareness of the opportunities available at the college and ensure parents and guardians understand the support available for their children. The announcement is now set to pave the way for other colleges to join the SPTC.

College awards fellowships

City of Glasgow College has appointed three Honorary Fellowships for outstanding contribution and inspirational strategic leadership.

Eric Tottman-Trayner, Captain Nigel John Palmer OBE and Peter Finch were recognised for helping establish Scotland’s largest college.

The three men were previously chairmen of the Boards of Management for Central, Nautical and Metropolitan colleges respectively before joining to form a shadow board for the new merged college.

Major milestone for City of Glasgow College new campus project

A major milestone has been reached in the procurement process for the design and construction of a new multi-million pound campus for City of Glasgow College.

More than 100 representatives from over 30 internationally renowned businesses attended a ‘Bidders Day’ event at the college.

The event is designed to provide firms with essential information required before they consider submitting bids and proposals to take forward the £200 million project.
