Money Matters

If you’re thinking about coming to college, you need to consider three main issues:

  • Will I have to pay my own course fees?
  • Will I get financial assistance towards my living costs?
  • If I take out a student loan, how much will the loan repayments be?

The good news is that most students get financial support towards the cost of studying. For example:

  • Most students do not have to pay course fees.
  • Many students receive support towards their living, travel, study and childcare expenses.

The financial support you get depends on the level of course you study. We’ve included some tables showing what you can apply for and who to contact.

If you study for an HNC or HND, you can apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland to meet the cost of your fees. You can also apply for a student bursary or loan and other grants and allowances. Non-Scottish students need to apply to their own local authority.

Whatever your age, or personal circumstances, we’ll help you get to grips with the funding rules for full time further education. You can get financial support to help you with travel, living expenses, childcare and course materials. Having your finances sorted lets you concentrate on your course work.

If you have an ILA, you can use this towards the fee for our part time courses. If you’re on benefits you might not need to pay any fees for part time courses. The new part time fee grant can give you up to £500 towards the cost of your course.
