Overview

This is an introductory course for those who have an interest in the hospitality and events Industry. It provides a broad level of skills that will allow you to access further courses of study in the college, leading to the NQ and then the HNC/D in Hospitality or Events Management.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • There are no formal entry requirements but you should have an interest in the industry.
  • If English is not your first language you will be required to have ESOL at Intermediate 2 level.

Additional selection requirements

  • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area

You will learn about the following:-

  • Food Service.
  • Word Processing.
  • Customer Care Skills.
  • Non-alcoholic beverages. 
  • Health and Safety. 
  • Food Hygiene.
  • Hospitality Events.

After the course

Careers

If you leave following successfully completing the course you will be able to gain an entry-level position in the Hospitality or Events Industry, for example, Food Server, Porter or Event Assistant.

Continuing Study

Following successful completion, you can apply to study the NQ Events or NQ Hospitality, both courses at SCQF Level 5.

How the course is taught

The course will be delivered during one academic year, over 3 blocks of 12 weeks. The course will include both theory and practical units

Additional Information

Materials

You would be provided with a bursary and this would include a Foodservice uniform.

Dress code

No formal dress code applies however, when in the Bistro or Scholars you are expected to wear the uniform provided.
