This Honours Degree is delivered by City of Glasgow College Social Sciences department in partnership with The Open University in Scotland. This three year Honours Degree focuses generally on the social sciences and history.

Course Fee

This course can be funded via SAAS part time fee grant. If your personal income is £25,000 or less, or you’re receiving certain benefits, you could qualify for the Open University fee grant to cover 100% of your course fees.

  • There are no formal entry qualifications for this course but applicants should be aware that they will have to be able and committed to gradually build the knowledge and skills essential for a partly self-directed approach to university study.

  • There will be an information and registration session at City of Glasgow College, City Campus. Full details of the course and what it entails will be given and places will be allocated on the day where possible.

What you study

Year 1 - Introduction to the Social Sciences and the Arts.

Years 2 & 3 - The focus is on Social Sciences and History.

As with any other Honours degree graduates can look for employment in related fields or further study at postgraduate level. Employers across many areas of employment, in both the public and private sectors, seek to recruit social science graduates because of their advanced skills of analysis and communication.

How the course is taught

A combination of blended learning and face to face classroom teaching. All modules include core study materials, such as CDs, DVDs, books and specially written texts, which you’ll receive by post when your module starts and they’re yours to keep.

Assessment methods

All assessments are done online. There is no exam component in year 1.

Access to a computer is essential. The college library has computers for student use.
