This Honours Degree is delivered by City of Glasgow College in partnership with The Open University in Scotland. This is an exciting partnership that brings together the very best in college and university education.  The College offers a new, dynamic, student-centered and down to earth environment in which students can thrive and The Open University’s learning resources and student support are exemplary.

This three-year Honours Degree focuses generally on the social sciences and history.

Course Fee

This course can be funded via SAAS part time fee grant. If your personal income is £25,000 or less, or you’re receiving certain benefits, you could qualify for the Open University fee grant to cover 100% of your course fees. 

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • HNC Social Sciences with 15 HN credits (120 SCQF Credits, with at least 120 credits at SCQF Level 7).

What you study

  • Year 2 – Social Sciences and History 
  • Year 3 – Social Sciences and History.

After the course


As with any other Honours degree graduates can look for employment in related fields or further study at postgraduate level. Employers across many areas of employment, in both the public and private sectors, seek to recruit social science graduates because of their advanced skills of analysis and communication. 

Continuing Study

Successful students can progress on to year 3 of the degree programme and thereafter on to postgraduate study.  


How the course is taught

A combination of blended learning and face to face classroom teaching. All modules include core study materials, such as CDs, DVDs, books and specially written texts, which you’ll receive by post when your module starts and they’re yours to keep.

Assessment methods

Access to a computer is essential. The college library has computers for student use. All learning materials are provided by the Open University.
