Overview

This course provides you with an introduction to the Construction Industry. During this course, you'll gain experience and knowledge in a variety of construction trades. On successful completion, you'll receive an Extended Certificate in Construction Skills at SCQF level 3.

This course runs for 6 months from January - June.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • There are no formal entrance qualifications, but you should be interested in construction and be able to demonstrate this during the application process, as well as in the compulsory pre-course guidance sessions.

Additional selection requirements

Your application will be reviewed and a decision will be made based on your qualifications, work experience and personal statement.

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher for HNC/D courses.

What you study

You'll learn a range of hand skills and practical tasks in the following trade areas:

  • Bricklaying.
  • Carpentry and Joinery.
  • Plastering.
  • Wall and Floor Tiling.

You will also have the opportunity to develop skills in communication, numeracy and ICT.

Continuing Study

Successful students can apply for an SCQF Level 4 course in a number of craft areas.
