Overview

The objective of this course is to develop your competency to the level required for you to carry out your duties as a Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy.

The experienced seafarers programme leading to STCW II/1 Officer of the Watch (OOW) Unlimited Certification.

This course is designed for experienced seafarers like Bosun and Able seafarer to join a ship as an officer of the watch.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • 36 months sea time acceptable seagoing services
  • 6 months engaged in bridge watchkeeping duties (‘experienced seafarer route’)

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher for HNC/D courses.

  • HNC Nautical Science.
  • MCA/SQA Preparation/Examination and MCA Oral Preparation.
  • Navigation Aids & Equipment Simulator Training (Operational Level) – NAEST (O).
  • Human Element, Leadership & Management (Operational Level) – HELM (O).
  • Efficient Deck Hand – EDH.
  • Proficiency in Survival Craft (CPSC).

After the course

Careers

After the course, you can sail as a Deck Officer on Merchant Navy Ships.
