Overview

Having skilled and professional managers who understand how to effectively and efficiently manage their buildings and services is a critical success factor for many businesses and organisations in the modern world.  As a result, Facilities Management has become one of the fastest growing professions in the UK. 

This award is aimed at those working within the sector at a middle management level, or those aspiring to do so.  The qualification is both nationally and professionally recognised and was designed with input from industry partners to meet the diverse needs of the Facilities Management workforce, offering an enhanced pathway to those within both a hard and soft Facilities Management environment.

You will attend workshops at the college every 4th Friday, complemented by distance learning between workshops.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • Any relevant Scottish Group Award at SCQF Level 6.
  • Any two National Qualifications at SCQF level 6 together with three passes at SCQF level 5 or above.
  • An SVQ at SCQF level 6 in a relevant area of Facilities Management.
  • Combinations of relevant and equivalent qualifications from other awarding bodies.
  • Relevant work experience.

The course consists of 10 mandatory units, which are:
  • Facilities Management: Overview.
  • Support Services Operations.
  • Managing Stakeholder Delivery. 
  • Managing Health and Safety. 
  • Sustainability, Environmental Issues and their Impact.
  • People Management. 
  • Facilities Management Projects.
  • Financial Management. 
  • Facilities Management Strategy. 
  • Project Based Graded Unit.
In addition, you will have the option to complete an additional 3 units to increase your knowledge and skills within the facilities management sector.

This course provides opportunities to develop a range of knowledge and skills relevant to a managerial role within the facilities management sector.

Teaching

How the course is taught

The course will be delivered over a 12 month period, starting in March. Delivery will utilise the full breadth of expertise from across the College’s specialist Faculties and industry partners. The course will be delivered in a blended approach through a combination of distance learning and intensive workshops and seminars.

Assessment methods

Assessments will focus on reflection and experience in the workplace and be carried out through a range of methods including case studies, personal reflection, essays and reports.

You will be encouraged to utilise your own experience, using examples from your role within the facilities management sector.
