Overview

This course is a 12 credit HNC in Hospitality covering a range of related subjects, both practical and theoretical. This course provides you with a valuable qualification for employment in an exciting, vibrant and ever-changing industry. Hospitality is a growth sector of industry both locally and internationally.  There are many varied opportunities for students after completing their HNC in hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs contract catering and events.  You may want to continue with your studies and the HNC allows you to articulate to HND Hospitality Management second year.

This course runs for 6 months from January - June.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • One Higher at Grade C or above; OR
  • National Qualification at SCQF level 6 in Hospitality; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher for HNC/D courses.

We also offer students a variety of paid work placements in some of Glasgow’s top establishments, which you can apply for in January once you've been accepted on the course.

After the course

Careers

This course prepares you for a career at an operational or supervisory level in the hospitality department of a hotel, a restaurant or bar, or directly into a graduate training scheme with larger organisations. We work with key representatives from industry to offer graduate training positions following the successful completion of the HNC.

Continuing Study

Year 2 of the HND Hospitality Management if you complete an additional three credits.

Once you achieve your HND in Hospitality Management you may progress onto the following courses at degree level:-

  • Year 3 of BA Hospitality Management at Edinburgh Napier University, which we offer at City Campus in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University;
  • Year 3 of BA International Business and Hospitality Management at Glasgow Caledonian University; 
  • Year 3 of BA Tourism at the University of the West of Scotland.

Teaching

How the course is taught

The course is taught through both practical and theoretical classes, which include demonstrations, group activities, case studies and practical work in our commercial restaurant Scholars'.

Assessment methods

Both practical and theoretical class-based assessments as well as project-based assessments to complete in your own time.
