This HNC Mechanical Engineering course is open only to women. You'll learn the skills, knowledge and understanding required for a career in mechanical engineering – an area where women are under-represented. 

If you want to work in one of the most diverse forms of Engineering, this course is for you. During practical sessions, you have use of our engineering workshop - fully equipped with pneumatic and hydraulic labs as well as CAD software running in our computer labs. 

We can offer you a suitable mentor during the course through our partnership with Equate.  (Discover how Equate are making a positive difference for women in science engineering, technology and the built environment here).  

Successful students have gone on to work in a range of engineering positions, from Engineering Technician to Mechanical Engineer. On successful completion of the course, you also have the opportunity to continue study at HND or Degree level.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • Two Highers at Grade C or above including Mathematics and preferably Physics; OR
  • National Qualification at SCQF level 5 or 6 in a relevant Mechanical Engineering subject; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

This course is for women only. You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you'll get the opportunity to find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.

Successful students can progress on to:

Students who successfully complete their HNC may progress on to an HND at the College or year two of B Eng Mechanical Power Plant Systems at Glasgow Caledonian University.
