Overview
This 2 year HND course offers you the opportunity to develop your creative talents through the use of traditional and contemporary printmaking, diverse drawing processes and digital media.
Students explore key printmaking techniques and media and this activity is supplemented by technical and creative skills in digital media, drawing and mixed media as well as contextual studies.
The course combines practical skills with theoretical knowledge and is project based. It is delivered through a mixture of lectures, practical workshops and other creative activities. You will also produce a portfolio of work that will support entry to employment or degree level courses.

Entry requirements
Minimum entry requirements
- Higher Art and Design at Grade C or above AND National 5 English at Grade C or above; OR
- NC/NQ qualification in Print, Art and Design, Graphic Design, or Illustration; OR
- Other equivalent qualifications or experience.
Additional selection requirements
- You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you’ll get the opportunity to find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.
- You'll be asked to provide examples of your art, photography or design work.

Careers
On completion of the course, you can pursue a career as a practicing Artist, Printmaker, Designer, Print Technician, or as a Printmaking Educator.
Continuing Study
Completion of this course can allow progress to:
- HND Digital Media, HND Contemporary Art Practice, or HND Graphic Design at the college.
You can also go on to art school or university degree courses, including:
- BA (Hons) Contemporary Art Practice, Gray’s School of Art (entering at year two).
