  • Overview

    This course gives you the essential skills and knowledge necessary to carry out a wide range of jobs in a range of business areas.  You'll be taught by staff with relevant industry experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students.  The course is designed to give you a broad education of all functions of business and give you a clear understanding of the business environment.

    If you have studied a language before at school you will have the opportunity to further develop these skills while studying at the college and may be eligible to progress, after HND Business, to year 3 International Business with Languages at Glasgow Caledonian University.

    This course accepts year two direct entrants (you must have a completed HNC Business, please see further information in direct entry section).

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7 (year 1) and Level 8 (year 2).  For more information on the framework visit: www.scqf.org.uk/the-framework/.   

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Two Highers at Grade C or above in a relevant* subject; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience

    * relevant subjects include English, Administration, Business Management, Economics, Geography, History, Mathematics, Modern Studies or a Science subject.

    Additional selection requirements

    You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.  Where COVID restrictions are in place we will invite you to either a video meeting, telephone conference call or make an offer based on your application form.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher for HNC/D courses.

    In the Business with Languages option, you'll study a language throughout your course.  The language you study will be determined by your previous language qualification and will be discussed at interview.

    A mixture of class lecturers, group tasks and presentations.

    Assessment methods

    All but one of the units that you study are assessed on a continuous basis throughout the year.  You have one end of year exam that assesses your integrated knowledge across the course.
