Overview

On this Electrical Engineering course, you'll expand on the electrical principles covered in Higher level. During the course, you'll be taught by staff with significant industry experience to develop your skills in a range of science disciplines.

Many of the course modules are project-based, with report writing included in second-year modules. The course is also designed for higher level technicians in the Electrical Engineering Industry which deals with the production, transmission, distribution and application of electricity and the manufacture, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment.

The course can also be studied over three years on a day-release top-up programme, after completion of the Higher National Certificate in Electrical Engineering.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • HNC in an appropriate Engineering subject; OR
  • Successful completion of HNC or HND first year at City of Glasgow College.

Careers

This course prepares you for a career as a trainee within the oil and gas industries which recognise the value of the course. Many students have been recruited by blue-chip organisations as well as a wide range of industrial and commercial organisations.

Continuing Study

There is also an established two + two degree programme with Glasgow Caledonian University in both Power Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Renewables.

Under the scheme, you can progress to year three of the above degree programmes if you get a minimum Grade 'B' in the engineering project.
