Overview

The Higher National Diploma in Photography course at City of Glasgow College is a popular two-year study option for those people who have already started their photographic experiences through full time or part time courses, such as NC/ NQ Photography, Higher Photography and evening or weekend classes.

It allows you to expand upon your existing photographic skills and takes you beyond the basics during your first year of study, introducing a range of specialist techniques and genres, which you will probably not have experienced before. During the second year, you will add to your experience, building skills and knowledge while focussing on the areas of the creative industries you might wish to work in after your studies.

The course is hugely practical, with project work making up a large part of assessments, allowing you to expand upon both your technical and creative knowledge while practising what you have learned. An important part of your experience will be working independently to complete project work, managing your time and workload, while being supported by a broad range of experienced staff in using a range of photographic equipment within City of Glasgow College’s state of the art facilities.

The HND in Photography course has been designed to prepare you for a future career in the Creative Industries, providing you with opportunities to meet and learn from practicing professional photographers through our visiting lecturer timetable and it offers you the chance to experience what it is like to be a working photographer by completing a range of  Industry or Live Projects devised by Creative Industry professionals.  Students studying photography at the City of Glasgow College have achieved national recognition, winning prestigious awards from the Association of Photographers and the British Institute of Professional Photography. By engaging fully with this course you could also enjoy such success in the future.

This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 8. For more information on the framework visit: www.scqf.org.uk/the-framework/.
