  • Overview

There is high demand for jobs in this area of expertise and this course is designed to prepare you for progression to University, employment as a web developer/designer or support the growth of a business start-up in digital technologies. This course would also suit individuals who have a background in design or other digital disciplines and require essential web technology skills to increase their employability opportunities.

Beginning with the fundamentals of website development, you will build on a foundation of client-side technologies (HTML5, CSS frameworks) and UI/UX  design through to more advanced studies on JavaScript, JavaScript libraries, CMS(WordPress), PHP/MySQLi and web servers.

Year 2 explores these subjects in more detail and introduces development technologies such as server-side languages, API integration and JavaScript frameworks. You will learn how to create data-driven content management systems using current web technologies. With these skills, you will be able to create websites that are dynamic, media-rich and responsive to user interaction.

There are opportunities to enter the UK WorldSkills Web Design competition, develop employability skills by team working and there may be opportunities to get involved with real clients and web projects.

The course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 8. For more information on the framework visit: www.scqf.org.uk/the-framework/.
