Overview

This is an intensive course which has been specifically designed for serving Deck Officers holding a Chief Mate Unlimited (STCW II/2) Certificate of Competency who wish to progress their qualifications to Master Unlimited (STCW II/2). The course will prepare you for the MCA Masters Oral Examination.

In addition to the day classes, all Masters candidates will have scheduled evening sessions in the 360° full mission bridge simulator at no extra cost.

Course Dates

The course runs a minimum of three times a year. The dates for 2019/20 are as follows:

  • 12th August 2019 - 11th September 2019
  • 6th January 2020 - 5th February 2020
  • 20th April 2020 - 20th May 2020

These are the current dates however, there may be further dates added in the future. If these dates are not suitable, please contact us to register your interest, and we can keep you posted on any new courses added.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

You must meet one of the following criteria

  • 36 months sea service as a Watch Keeping Deck Officer while holding an OOW Unlimited II/1 CoC OR
  • 24 months services as a watchkeeping officer if at least 12 months of such seagoing service has been served as Chief Mate while holding a Chief Mate unlimited, II/2, Certificate of Competency.

What you study

There are four weeks of core classes, with three extra days allocated for mock orals and additional topics as required.

  • Navigation
  • Cargo Handling and Stowage
  • Response to Emergencies
  • Shipboard Operations and Management
  • Business and Law

In addition to the day classes, all Masters candidates will have scheduled evening sessions in the 360° full mission bridge simulator at no extra cost.

The course does not include Human Element, Leadership & Management (HELM) or Medical Care on Board (MCOB) as standard, but these can be booked as optional extras. Please discuss this with us at time of booking.

Furthermore, the College do not arrange your Oral Exam Appointment itself, this is your responsibility to arrange directly with the MCA after obtaining your Notice of Eligibility. Assistance to apply for a Notice of Eligibility (NoE) can be provided as required.
