Overview

The course will prepare you for MCA/SQA written examinations covering Navigation and Ship Stability & Structure.

The course is suitable for those who have gained Officer of the Watch (OOW) Certificate of Competency through UK HND, Foundation Degree or Scottish Professional Diploma, and required to pass MCA/SQA written examination to gain Chief Mate certificate of competency.

The course is also suitable for those who have previously attempted MCA/SQA examinations.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

Holding Deck OOW Certificate of Competency issued by MCA and completed

• Chief Mate course including HND Nautical Science OR
• Chief Mate Post HND course OR
• UK Foundation Degree in Nautical Science OR
• Scottish Professional Diploma in Nautical Science.

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher for HNC/D courses.
