Overview

The NC Level 6 Make-up Artistry course is designed for you if you are interested in taking the initial steps to a career in the fast-paced industry of Make-up Artistry.  All technical units build and equip you with skills to expand your creativity and artistic skills through specialist units, unique to becoming a make-up artist.  You will be taught by a team of industry experts with a wealth of experience and expertise in make-up counters, film, theatre and fashion photo shoots.  Their expertise will ensure your learning is at the centre of their teaching practice.

Work experience is an essential part of the course and you will undertake a work placement which you need to secure.  You may have the opportunity to take part in competitions and industry shows.

The course will run for 6 months from January - June 2018.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • SCQF Level 5 Hairdressing or SVQ2 Hairdressing or Level 5 Beauty OR
  • Minimum of National 5 English/Art OR
  • Relevant industry experience and be successful at interview.

Entry is based on a successful interview, where you'll be expected to show good communication skills and an understanding of Make-Up Artistry.  You should provide all current qualifications to date at interview.

You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview, where you'll get the opportunity to find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in the subject.

What you study

Core units/subjects you will undertake are:-

  • Style, Dress and Finish Hair.
  • Wigs and Postiche for the Media.
  • Media make-up Special Effects.
  • Character make-up for TV and Theatre.
  • Styling for a Total Look.
  • Commercial Experience.

Additional units to make up your award include;

  • Photography: Digital Imaging.
  • Current Creative Make-up Trends.
  • Research Skills.

Continuing study

Successful students can progress on to:

HNC/HND Fashion Make-up and Make-up Artistry.

Teaching

How the course is taught

The course will be taught over 2 blocks entailing 11 weeks of learning, teaching and assessment. You will be continually assessed throughout the duration of the course.

Assessment methods

The course entails a variety of assessment methods; Practical, Closed book and portfolio building.
