This is a vocational qualification giving you practical opportunities for developing real skills that are valid and relevant in the Building and Engineering Services sector. 

You will gain a wide range of skills, practices and knowledge across a range of subject areas including Plumbing and Electrical operations, Energy and the Environment, Science and Health and Safety. 

It will also better prepare you for a career in the Building Services Engineering sector and allow you to make an informed choice about the most appropriate career option.

On successful completion, you'll receive a National Progression Award from the Scottish Qualification Authority.  This is a recognised National Qualification in the Building Services Engineering sector.

This course is offered twice a year

  • January - June 2020
  • August - December 2020.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • You must demonstrate an interest in Building Services Engineering AND have
  • Two National 4 qualifications preferably in English, Mathematics or Physics; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

Additional selection requirements

  • You'll be invited to undertake a pre-course written assessment on SCQF Numeracy and Literacy which will last approx. 25-30 minutes.  On completion, you'll be invited to undertake a pre-course assessment and then attend a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject.

ESOL entry requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher for HNC/D courses.

The course contains practical and theoretical aspects and will be delivered in a workshop and classroom environment.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed on your practical ability and knowledge of the subject area through practical and written assessments.
