    This course offers you an ideal first step into the Interior Design Industry, providing you with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills required to begin your career journey.

    You'll develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work on design projects - from initial conceptual ideas to interior design schemes.

    Your programme will be delivered by our professional teaching staff with significant Interior Design experience and a proven track record of bringing out the best in their students. A blended approach to learning & teaching will continue and will include at least one full-day in the studio environment, online classes and independent study.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 6.

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • National 5 Art and Design and National 5 English at Grade C or above; OR
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    Additional selection requirements

    • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area. Where COVID restrictions are in place we will invite you to either a video meeting, telephone conference call or make an offer based on your application form.
    • You’ll be asked to provide examples of your art and design work. In light of the current situation, it is important you upload a digital portfolio as well as your SQA certificates.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher for HNC/D courses.

    What you study

    Through a range of interesting design projects, you will develop skills in the following areas -

    • Use of Colour in Interior Design.
    • Sourcing and selecting a range of Materials & Products for Interior Design Projects.
    • Freehand Drawing and Rendering using a Variety of Media.
    • Production of Fully Rendered, Perspective Visuals.
    • Production of Technical Drawings as both Traditional Ink Drawings and AutoCAD Software.
    • Project Presentation techniques.
    • The foundation of professional practices, including time management, organisational skills and problem-solving.
