Overview

This is a practical course where you'll learn how to make content for online as well as broadcast distribution. You will work with other students on a range of projects in music programming as well as both factual and scripted video.   

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • Two National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above including English; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

Additional selection requirements

  • You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview, where you'll get the opportunity to find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.
  • You’ll be asked to complete a short written task to a brief that will be set on the day.

You'll be given technical and practical experience in both radio and television production.

  • Radio Journalism.
  • Radio Interviewing. 
  • Radio Music Programme Production.

  • Making a Radio Programme.

After the course

Careers

This course is designed to introduce you to opportunities within the broadcasting business. It will provide the basic skills and knowledge required at a junior level though the industry will expect you to continue your studies and develop. At this stage, there are some entry-level roles and apprenticeship opportunities.

Continuing Study

On successful completion of the course, you will be able to apply for either HNC Creative Industries: Radio or HNC Creative Industries: Television.  Other course options are also available.

Teaching

How the course is taught

The course is taught in a series of projects where you can apply the different skills you learn.  Most of the workload is of a practical or creative nature where you will work with your classmates to make different kinds of content, both audio and video.  There are also some written assessments.
