    This course will introduce you to the business side of retail fashion. You'll explore aspects of branding, marketing, retail buying, merchandising and display.  

    This course is not design-orientated but helps develop an understanding of the creative processes of retail fashion and how they're managed.

    You'll have the chance to create, design and implement your own fashion event, or show, to gain the relevant experience and skills.  The course is delivered by experienced staff in retail and fashion who will develop your understanding and knowledge of the retail fashion industry.

    This course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 6. For more information on the framework visit:

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    • Three National 5 qualifications at Grade C or above including English; OR 
    • Other equivalent qualifications or experience.

    You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.  Where COVID restrictions are in place we will invite you to either a video meeting, telephone conference call or make an offer based on your application form.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher for HNC/D courses.

    After the course


    Successful candidates can apply to HN courses or enter employment into fashion and retail. On successful completion of this course with all credits, you can progress onto HNC/D Awards in Retail Management, Marketing Communications or other SQA Awards.

    A wide range of inventive and stimulating learning methods are employed to ensure students engage with current retail fashion opportunities and academic theory and practice.

    Assessment methods

    A wide range of continuous assessment methods with active learning will be employed.
