    Why Finance, Business and Investment?

    Finance, Business and Investment is a large sector in Scotland with a number of employment opportunities. This course combines core elements of Business with specialist Finance and investment units. You'll be assessed throughout this course with the assessments taking the form of practical assessments, assignment and case studies. City of Glasgow College has strong links with Financial and Investment organisations, which provide industry visits and guest speakers to add value to the academic content of the course. Throughout the course, you'll undertake a program of guidance activities designed to help you make the most of your qualification and college experience. You'll be required to attend college (some classes will be online and some will be in-person) for four days every week. This course will commence on 6th December 2021 and run until 17th June 2022.

    Entry requirements

    Minimum entry requirements

    · Two National 4 and One National 5 qualification at Grade C or above in relevant* subjects; OR

    · Other equivalent qualifications or experience, where verifiable evidence has been provided.

    *Relevant subjects include any from a STEM discipline or English.

    ESOL entry requirements

    Applicants whose first language is not English should have minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses and ESOL Higher for HNC/D courses.

    What you study

    The National Progression Award (NPA) in Financial Services at SCQF level 6 introduces learners to the knowledge and skills that are important in the Financial Services sector and in various types of roles such as Customer Service Officer; Complaints Handler; Compliance Officer; Relationship Officer; and ICT Systems Support Officer.

    If you successfully complete the NQ Finance, Business and Investment you will be awarded NPA Financial Services, having completed the following units:

    • Financial Services: An Introduction.
    • Financial Services: Personal Finance Awareness.
    • Financial Services: The Regulatory Framework.
    • Financial Services: Communication.
    • Financial Services: Promoting Positive Customer Relationships.

    Students studying this course will also complete an NPA in Data Science at SCQF 5. This will provide the important knowledge and skills in data science to increase awareness of and provide practical skills in data analysis. The qualification will also raise awareness of the societal aspects of this important, emerging technology. If you successfully complete the NQ Finance, Business and Investment you will be awarded NPA Data Science, having completed the following units:

    • Data Science
    • Data Citizenship
    • Data Security

    Further subjects will include general business subjects such as; management, business life cycle, economics, human resources and business strategy.

    If you successfully complete 12 units on the NQ Finance, Business and Investment course you can progress to:

    • HNC Financial Services
    • HNC Accounting
    • HNC Supply Chain Management
    • HNC Retail Management
    • HNC Fashion Business

    Assessment methods

    This course is designed on the principle of continuous assessment. You will be continuously working towards, undertaking or preparing for an assessment for at least one outcome.

    The assessments will be a combination of closed booked assessments under controlled and timed conditions and other practical assessment methods such as presentations.
