Overview

On this course you will focus on effective consultation, selecting suitable products, planning the placement and application of colour and lightening products to produce a variety of current fashion effects.  You will participate in a number of activities which will enable you to combine essential knowledge and practical skills in colouring and lightening.

This course is suitable for those who have prior knowledge of hair colouring and lightening.  It would be advantageous, but not necessary if you have knowledge of the hair structure and basic colouring techniques as well.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • Level 5 Mix, Apply and Remove Colour; OR 
  • 2 years industry experience.
  • If English is not your first language the ESOL Intermediate 2 is essential. 

What you study

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of hair colour.
  • Identify and describe relevant tests for hair colouring and lightening.
  • Consult and prepare for hair colouring and lightening.
  • Perform hair colouring and lightening.

After the course

Careers

Students can apply for the Creative Colouring course.

Teaching

How the course is taught

The course is taught in a live salon environment with demonstrations and hands-on practical tasks and also written work.  You will also research current colour fashion trends. 

Support will be put in place where necessary from Student Services and Lecturers to assist you throughout the course.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include written and practical observed assessments.

Additional Information

Materials

A selection of Wella colour products will be available to be used on the course.  You will need to bring your own clients for assessments and supply your own brushes and combs.
