Overview

MCA approved 3 day course suitable for seafarers who are about to serve, or are already serving, as safety representatives.

The training is intended to meet the requirements set out in Merchant Navy Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Health and safety at Work) Regulations.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

  • You must be a minimum of 18 years of age; and
  • You'll have at least 12 months sea time and will have served at sea in a merchant vessel.

 

What you study

You'll study:

  • The roles of the Safety Officer and other members of the safety committee.
  • Overview of the ISM code.
  • Practical exercises in carrying out Risk Assessments.
  • Conducting Safety Inspections.
  • Accident and Incident investigation.
  • Promoting a safe working environment and safety culture.
