ENTERPRISE COMPETITION

This is a business start up competition open to all City of Glasgow College students. You can win 1 of 5 cash prizes of £1000 and certified start up training to help launch your business.

 

Stage 1

You'll be asked to submit the following to innovation.comp@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk:

  1. Full Name.
  2. College course.
  3. Postcode.
  4. Mobile Number.
  5. Email address.
  6. Video pitch Link.

 

The deadline for Stage 1:

  • Midnight on Sunday the 25th of November.

The opportunity:

  • The top 30 Business Pitch videos will progress to Stage 2.

Please submit your entry by email to innovation.comp@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk and ensure that your entry is acknowledged.

Stage 1 involves completing the above entry form which must include a 1-min video pitch explaining your business idea. Upload your pitch video to a video hosting site like OneDrive, Google Drive, Vimeo or YouTube (unlisted for privacy) and send the link to innovation.comp@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk including your full name and course details.

Don’t forget to save the entry form once you’ve entered your details. The video pitch should run for no longer than a minute and is your chance to highlight the strengths of your application. Please do not send video files.

The top 30 Business Pitch videos will progress to Stage 2 where you’ll receive accredited training to help develop your business.

To help you develop your business idea and create your video pitch we’ll be running the following training sessions:

Time: 16:30 - 18:00.

  1. Wed Sep 12th - Business Idea and Pitch Development.
  2. Wed Sep 19th - Business Idea and Pitch Development.
  3. Wed Sep 26th - Business Idea and Pitch Development.
  4. Wed Oct 3rd - Business Plan and Pitch Development.
  5. Wed Oct 10th - Business Plan and Pitch Development.
  6. Wed Oct 17th - Pitch Filming Session.
  7. Wed Oct 24th - Pitch Filming Session.
  8. Wed Oct 31st - Pitch Filming Session.

 

Stage 2

You'll complete:

SQA Unit: Preparing to Start a Business (Training Dates and times TBC)

The opportunity:

  • The students who complete the unit and prepare a 5 min pitch will receive £250 and continue to Stage 3.

The top 30 business pitches that made it through stage 1 will take part in a series of Start-up Training Sessions in order to prepare for the final stage, a 5 min business pitch presentation in front of a live audience and panel of judges.

All students who complete the SQA Unit: Preparing to Start a Business will have the opportunity to pitch their full business plan for a chance to win one of 5 cash prizes of £1000.

 

Stage 3

You'll complete:

5 min presentation in front of a live audience and panel of judges.

The deadline for Stage 3:

  • 20th March, 2019.

The opportunity:

  • Win one of 5 cash prizes of £1000.

Stage 3 is the final stage and provides the opportunity to present a 5 min business pitch in front of a live audience and panel of judges. Judges will be drawn from Princes Trust, Scottish Enterprise, Young Enterprise Scotland/Bridge 2 Business, Scottish Institute for Enterprise, and successful entrepreneurs.

There is wide range of suitable business plans you could use. A link to the Prince’s Trust is provided below but it is just one example.

A panel of judges will consider each application on merit and allocate the funds in response to the quality of each entry. This is grant funding, to support your idea or business, not a loan. Your challenge is to convince the judges your idea is a winner.

Judges will be drawn from Princes Trust, Scottish Enterprise, Young Enterprise Scotland/Bridge 2 Business, Scottish Institute for Enterprise, and successful entrepreneurs.
