Business student in running for education award

City of Glasgow College Diploma of Higher Education Business student, Alistair Lee, has been shortlisted for the Enterprising Student of the Year Award at this year’s Bridge2Business Educator Awards.

The award is presented to an FE student for showing the most enterprising spirit and creative approach to a start-up enterprise, sustainable employment or education progression.

Alistair is up against four other students from Edinburgh, Ayrshire and West Lothian Colleges in the category. He said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be nominated for Enterprising Student of the Year. Being considered for such a well-respected award, never mind becoming a finalist, is an honour and a privilege.

“I have been working extremely hard over the past year or so on my entrepreneurial ventures. Most recently in my role working with a hand sanitiser company, helping reach the people that need and deserve it most. I see this nomination as validation of hard work which I find very satisfying and rewarding.”

Amanda McSorley, Curriculum Head for Business at City of Glasgow College, shortlisted Alistair for the award. She said:

"I am thrilled to see that Alistair has been shortlisted for this prestigious award. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness his entrepreneurial journey during his time at City of Glasgow College. It is fantastic to see his hard work pay off and Alistair receive the recognition he deserves. I have no doubt he has a bright and successful future ahead and we all wish him the very best of luck in the competition."

Alistair is currently working for Clear Water Gel which set up specifically to produce hand sanitiser for key workers, and wants to continue getting this important PPE to the frontline for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic. He then plans to restart his eBay business once suppliers have re-opened, and continue his property investment venture. His ultimate goal is to acquire enough capital to start a business in men’s luxury formal shoes in a way he feels will do it justice.

The Bridge2Business Enterprise Educator Awards 2020 recognise and reward students, colleges, educators and individuals who are leading the way in enterprise for Scotland. They will be presented during an online festival of youth enterprise on Tuesday 2 June 2020.
