Business student scoops education award

City of Glasgow College Diploma of Higher Education Business student, Alistair Lee, has won Enterprising Student of the Year Award at this year’s Bridge2Business Educator Awards.

The award is presented to an FE student for showing the most enterprising spirit and creative approach to a start-up enterprise, sustainable employment or education progression.

Alistair was up against four other students from Edinburgh, Ayrshire and West Lothian Colleges in the category. He said:

“To win an award like this is unbelievably satisfying. This past year has been hard work, but recognition like this makes it all worth it. To beat four other qualified, deserving candidates just shows that my hard work is starting to bear fruit.

“The chance to represent City of Glasgow College and win the award for them is what pleases me the most. The college has given me so many opportunities during my time there and this award wouldn’t have happened without the business faculty being thoughtful enough to nominate me."

Amanda McSorley, Curriculum Head for Business at City of Glasgow College, shortlisted Alistair for the award. She said:

"This is a well-deserved win for Alistair and we are thrilled for him. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness his entrepreneurial journey during his time at City of Glasgow College. It is fantastic to see his hard work pay off and Alistair receive the recognition he deserves. I have no doubt he has a bright and successful future ahead and our congratulations go to him."

Alistair has a number of enterprises, including an eBay business and property investment venture, which are on hold while he works with a company that produces hand sanitiser for key workers. His ultimate goal is to acquire sufficient capital to start a business in men’s luxury formal shoes.
