Celebrating Excellence and Achievement

In a first for Scotland, City of Glasgow College’s Student Engagement Team has achieved 5 Stars in the Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Awards.

The annual Awards are a partnership initiative between NUS Scotland and Scottish Student Sport. Funded by the Scottish Government they focus on the link between sports, physical activity, smoking prevention and mental health.

In the past year, City of Glasgow College students and staff, alongside NUS, ASH Scotland and local NHS health improvement teams, have participated in events that promote health and wellbeing to City students and staff.

Sandra Cook, Student Engagement Manager, said:

“This is a fantastic achievement for Student Engagement and reflects the hard work, commitment and endless enthusiasm of everyone in the team. Our thanks go to all staff and partners who have supported us over the last year, and our congratulations go to our students who are at the heart of everything we do, and the reason we do what we do.”

Meanwhile three City of Glasgow students enjoyed a clean sweep at this year’s BESA Scotland Annual Awards.

Ross Mailer, Stewart Smith and Connor Harper, who are all studying SVQ Gas Installation and Maintenance Level 3, took first, second and third places respectively in the Domestic Gas Apprentice of the Year category.

As the winner, Ross took home a prize of Milwaukee tools and an engraved glass trophy and is now automatically shortlisted for the 2018 BESA National Awards which take place on 1 November at the Park Plaza Victoria in London.

Mark Murkowski, senior lecturer with the Faculty of Building, Engineering and Energy at the college, presented Ross, Stewart and Connor with their awards alongside BESA President, Tim Hopkinson.

Mark said:

“All three excelled in the competition, each achieving excellent scores and with only one point separating them. It was a superb effort which reflected all their hard work and commitment.”
