City of Glasgow College offering Dynamic Positioning Training

City of Glasgow College is the only mainstream nautical college in the UK offering Nautical Institute accredited Dynamic Positioning Induction and Simulator courses.

In addition, Dynamic Positioning Awareness training is also provided to all Deck Cadets as part of the Industry leading bridge ready programme.

Dleep Fotedar, Curriculum Head for the City of Glasgow College’s Faculty of Nautical Studies, said:

“Our college recognises that Dynamic Positioning operations are becoming the norm on many vessels and as such elements of dynamic positioning are included in our "bridge ready" programme for all deck cadets.

“It is not enough to train seafarers for today only; we have to prepare them for tomorrow by ensuring every student has access to world class and industry relevant training facilities which are supported by pioneering methods of delivery.”

Captain Duncan Bruce, DP Simulation Centre Manager at City of Glasgow College, said:

“The ability to provide Dynamic Positioning training to all levels of seafarer using technologically advanced equipment puts City of Glasgow College at the forefront of this specialised and innovative sector. It allows us to serve all areas of the industry from offshore through to the superyacht market."

The Faculty of Nautical Studies is based at the college’s award winning Riverside maritime campus where it also offers Dynamic Positioning ship-handling in the facility’s state of the art 360 degree bridge simulator.

Dynamic Positioning permits precise control of the heading and position of the ship and is now the norm in the North Sea offshore industry and renewables sector and is also installed on many shuttle tankers, cruise ships, yachts and heavy lift vessels.
