Fair Trade Super College

City of Glasgow College has been awarded Fair Trade Status in recognition of its commitment to ethical and social awareness principles.

The College has successfully achieved the goals required to meet the standard including the provision of Fairtrade products throughout the twin-site campus; serving Fairtrade products at meetings, organising successful Fairtrade Campaigns and setting up a Fairtrade Steering Group to maintain impetus and develop events and activities.

Principal and Chief Executive at City of Glasgow College, Paul Little, said:

“I am delighted that we have been awarded this internationally recognised status which endorses our College’s commitment to supporting and using fairly traded products across our twin-site super campus. It is also part of our commitment to sustainability, international development and to offering wider choice to the people who work, study and visit with us.

“Our ongoing collaboration with stakeholders and partners has been praised by the Fair Trade Foundation along with the incredible amount of energy invested into the variety of campaigns organised by both staff and students. It is particularly encouraging to see our students so involved in promoting and fundraising for fair trade causes which both raise awareness and provide an invaluable learning curve.”

Gordon McIntyre, Chair of the Fair Trade Steering Group and Curriculum Head, Hospitality, said:

“It is a fitting award for the effort that is made by students and staff of the College in raising the awareness of a very important international issue. We are delighted to gain this recognition, it is something to treasure and take pride in.”
