Opening doors to Scotland's Super College

City of Glasgow College’s stunning twin site super campus will welcome over 200 visitors as it takes part in this month’s Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival.

The tours offer a rare chance for members of the public to see round the architecturally award winning City campus on Cathedral Street and Riverside campus on the banks of the River Clyde.

Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive of City of Glasgow College, said:

“We are delighted to take part in Glasgow’s annual Doors Open Days Festival. Since our super campus first opened in 2015 over 50,000 guests, stakeholders, partner organisations, politicians and government ministers from across the globe have visited our world class college to see for themselves the latest in learning and teaching facilities. We look forward to welcoming new visitors to our stunning buildings which really do have the wow factor.”

The tours are a fantastic opportunity to experience first-hand the range of hi-tech, industry standard facilities enjoyed by students and to see why the two buildings have amassed a grand total of 23 architectural and design awards between them.

Ann Brannan, Events Manager at City of Glasgow College, is in charge of co-ordinating Doors Open at the college. She said:

“This is the first time City campus has taken part in the festival but Riverside opened its doors in 2016 when it won Outstanding New Festival Participant. Of course, we’re hoping City may follow in its footsteps and are really looking forward to seeing people’s reactions to our buildings. There’s a wide range of areas on show, some that may surprise, and both campuses have great views across the city so there are plenty of photo opportunities.”

Tours include access to Riverside’s shipping simulation suites with the chance to experience being on the bridge of a super-tanker, and to its industry scaled engineering workshop and 20 ton ship’s engine. Those on the City tour will see round broadcast standard television and radio studios, and get a peek at the kitchens where Gary Maclean teaches the next generation of MasterChefs.

Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival runs from Monday 10 to Sunday 16 September.
