Scotland's national chef reveals party food secrets

Gary Maclean, Executive Chef at City of Glasgow College, recently shared the secret of making simple and delicious party food with fellow food lovers at the college’s City campus.

Those attending the Easy Entertaining Party Food event started by sampling some of Gary’s canapés with a glass of bubbles. They then joined the former MasterChef champion in the college’s lecture theatre where he prepared a number of easy menus designed to wow guests at social gatherings.

The guests were particularly impressed by his katsu chicken curry which he demonstrated together with a variety of other tasty dishes.

Gary then held a Q&A session during which he spoke about the food he had prepared as well as about his time on MasterChef: The Professionals. He said:

“Party food is a huge passion of mine so getting to share some of the tips and tricks that I’ve picked up throughout my career was really rewarding.

“My hope is that as many of the attendees as possible take my advice home with them to help wow their friends and families at their next dinner party.”

Food lover, Anne Hunter, who attended the event, said:

"Gary was very entertaining, talking about his time on MasterChef and his travels around the world.

“The food was delicious and surprisingly quick and easy to make - seven amazing dishes in two hours. I will definitely be trying out the recipes."

Gary’s Easy Entertaining Party Food took place at City of Glasgow College’s City campus on Cathedral Street. The event was part of a series of demonstrations and dining experiences hosted by Scotland’s National Chef at the Super College.
