Showcase of Technical and Professional Skills at Super College

An impressive range of student talent was showcased at City of Glasgow College to highlight the breadth and quality of its vocational education and training delivery.

Stuart McDowall, Partnership Development and Academy Manager at City of Glasgow College, said:

“This was a packed event with an impressive range of student talent on display from hair and beauty to stonemasonry to WorldSkills patisserie.

“As it was also a celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Erasmus Plus we used the occasion to raise awareness of the opportunities for transnational mobility for our students and staff, as well the chance for skills development through WorldSkills competitions.

“Erasmus Plus is an important mechanism for the development of key vocational and transferable skills. Several groups of our students have visited European Centres of Excellence this year as part of our college’s first student mobility project. We have more educational and cultural programmes planned giving students the chance to broaden their horizons and engage with leading vocational thinkers and educators across Europe.”

A number of WorldSkills UK Skills medal winners attended the event to pass on their experience and to highlight the benefits of taking part in skills competitions. City of Glasgow College topped the medal table at this year’s UK Skills Show National Finals, making it the number one college in the UK for skills.

The whole event was part of European Vocational Skills Week 2017 which saw over 1500 activities taking place across 45 countries. The aim was to promote the life changing skills that can be taught through vocational education and to make vocational education and training the first choice for young people and adults looking to continue learning.
