Super College calls for apprentices

As Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2020 gets underway, City of Glasgow College is calling for trainees to complete a Modern Apprenticeship in hairdressing or barbering.

Seven apprenticeships are on offer at the college’s City campus on Cathedral Street where training will be provided in its industry standard salons.

Caroline Greenhill, Curriculum Head for Barbering & Apprenticeships at City of Glasgow College, said:

“The successful apprentices will gain an SCQF Level 5 or SCQF Level 6 qualification in Hairdressing or Barbering. From day one they will gain new skills with hands-on experience whilst having a real job with real pay.

“Our seven new apprenticeship places are an ideal opportunity for employers to send their trainees to us; to build on existing basic hairdressing skills, or develop creative current trends. I would encourages businesses to get in touch.”

Chloe Anderson, Modern Apprentice Hairdressing at City of Glasgow College, said:

“I would definitely recommend a Modern Apprentice with the college. The lecturers are friendly and approachable and the classrooms are like real life salons, they are equipped with everything you need.”

Lisa McCarthy, Workforce Development Coordinator at City of Glasgow College, said:

“We currently have 75 apprentices in hairdressing and barbering. They are funded through Skills Development Scotland and are for anyone over the age of 16 who is in employment and wishes to earn a wage while they learn.

“Our college has just over 600 Modern Apprenticeships and this figure increases year on year. They are very much a recognised route into employment which our involvement with the annual Scottish Apprenticeship Week helps to highlight.”
