Super College Principal shortlisted for FE Leader of the Year

City of Glasgow College Principal and Chief Executive, Paul Little, has been shortlisted for the prestigious TES FE Leader of the Year 2017.

The Awards which recognise the best institutions and individuals in further education have been described as a crucial way to celebrate excellence and to give credit to those who have worked to transform the life chances of many people.

Principal Little said he was delighted to be on a shortlist of such outstanding individuals adding:

“I am honoured to be considered for this award, especially as it also recognises the tremendous support our college staff and students receive from all our partners and Board. The continued success of City of Glasgow College, particularly over the past six years, has very much been a Team City effort. I am extremely proud to lead such an outstanding team who strive to deliver new ways of working and higher standards of excellence for our students on a daily basis.”

In 2010 Paul Little successfully pioneered the merger of Glasgow’s four specialist colleges – nautical, commercial, building and printing, food technology – with four distinct cultures; encouraging some 1300 staff to move to a twin site super campus, within a challenging timescale, whilst embracing innovative new ways of learning, teaching, support and management.

Six years on the College represents a £228 million investment in tertiary education with the largest and most modern, most technologically advanced, most future-proofed twin site super campus in Scotland, the UK and Europe.

City of Glasgow College is the top performing college in Scotland in overall Further Education and Higher Education results. It is overall number one in the Scottish sector for success in student attainment, and ranks in the top two in the UK for WorldSkills. It is the number one destination for school leavers in Scotland going into HE, and the first college to be awarded Investors in Innovation status.

The TES FE awards, now in their sixth year, celebrate the dedication of leading colleges, providers, teams and individual staff to their learners.

A record number of entries, up by a third compared with last year, were received and the winners across 14 categories will be announced during a ceremony at the Grosvenor House hotel in London’s Park Lane on 24 February 2017.
