City of Glasgow College business student named intern of the year by national body that aims to create Scotland’s next generation of entrepreneurs.

Kamil Polakowski secured an internship with the Scottish Institute for Enterprise (SIE) thanks to experience he gained studying for an HND business qualification at City of Glasgow College. He was selected by bosses at SIE after impressing them with his CV, and at interview.

At an awards dinner held recently in Glasgow's Corinthian, Kamil was named intern of the year in the college category. He said:

“I was responsible for building and maintaining the relationship between the SIE and City of Glasgow College. I also promoted the services SIE provides for students, such as free professional business advice and business competitions. I really enjoyed it. At first I found the role quite difficult but the more experience I gained and the more my skills developed, the work came more naturally.”

Kamil believes his education at City of Glasgow College, combined with his work experience as an SIE intern, has paved the way for him to fulfil his lifetime goal of a career in business.

“I have always been passionate about business and couldn’t picture myself doing anything else for a career. I have a conditional offer from Glasgow Caledonian University to start studying a degree in international business. I still need to pass my HND and, if successful, I will enter the third year in September 2018. Last year I achieved an A and I’m hopeful of repeating that this year. In the long run, I would like to work at a high level within a large organisation so that I can put my qualifications to good use.”

Amanda Muir, Business Lecturer at City of Glasgow College, said: “Kamil is a very committed and enthusiastic student. He worked extremely hard to be selected for, and then excel in, his role as an intern with the SIE. I am sure that this dedication and the experience he has gained as an intern, combined with his studies on our HND business course, will ensure a successful future business career.”
