Super College student sets championship record

City of Glasgow College students once again achieved great success at the Student Athletics Championships.

Scottish female sprinter and rising athletics star, Jenna Wrisberg, an HND Marketing student at the college, took gold and set an indoor championship record in the 60 metres with a time of 7.50 seconds.

Jenna said:

‘I knew I had to get off to a good start to win. I aimed high and tried to stay in the moment despite feeling some pain in my foot during warm-up. I’m delighted I managed to lower my personal best from 7.61 to 7.50 and set a new championship record.”

Callum Drummond, Sports Therapy student, at City of Glasgow College won a silver medal in the 800 metres with a time of 1 minute 59 seconds. Christie McSkimming, who is also studying sports therapy, competed in the high jump but narrowly missed out on a bronze medal as she finished fourth with a very respectable 1.55 metres.

A number of records were broken as students from colleges and universities across the country competed in the annual Scottish University and College Indoor Championships.

The event took place at the Emirates Arena and featured double European gold medallist, Laura Muir, who is a student at the University of Glasgow and continues to compete alongside other students, inspiring the next generation of athletics competitors.

City of Glasgow College student athletes are now training for the Scottish University and College Outdoor Championships on 14 April. A number are also in the running for selection for the Scottish vs Irish International on 26 May. Both these events will take place at Grangemouth Stadium in Falkirk.
