Talented Scot triumphs at EuroSkills 2016

City of Glasgow College student, Isla McLarty, has secured a Medallion of Excellence at this year's EuroSkills competition.

The 19 year old from Old Kilpatrick achieved her award in Beauty Therapy which involved pedicure, manicure, facials, body treatments, masage and make-up. Marks were awarded on completion of tasks in the specfied time. Hygiene and safety was also taken into account in the assessment.

Fellow Scot, Betsy Crosbie of New College Lanarkshire also won a Medallion of Excellence for her discpline, Mechanical Engineering CAD.

City of Glasgow College Principal and Chief Executive, Paul Little, said:

“Our congratulations go to Isla McLarty and all of Team UK who enjoyed their best ever performance at EuroSkills winning a record haul of eight medals and eight Medallions of Excellence. As WorldSkills UK Ambassador for Scotland, I was delighted to attend Euro Skills 2016 and cheer on Isla who was one of only two Scots representing the UK in this prestigious European competition, an incredible achievement itself and the culmination of long hours of rigorous training and development. To take home a Medallion of Excellence confirms her place amongst the best in Europe and our sights are now set on WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017.”

Team UK took four golds in Landscape Gardening, 3D Games Design and Welding, a silver in floristry and three bronze medals in Mechatronics and Cooking. The Medallions of Excellence, which signify achievement of the highest European standards, were awarded in Cabinet Making, Mechanical Engineering CAD, CNC Milling, Bricklaying, Painting and Decorating, Hairdressing, Plumbing and Heating and Beauty Therapy.
