Overview

Accomplished artist and lecturer Russell MacEwan makes drawing portraits in charcoal both accessible and pleasurable. On this advanced course, you will learn to compose portraits following direction and advice whilst working with a live model.

You will have use of the facilities in our teaching studios and workshops where you will create a portfolio of work guided by Russell.  You will learn to produce charcoal portraits following tips, advice and in-depth tutorials.  Some valuable exercises make this more advanced course a further step toward building an understanding and appreciation of the medium. This fun class will equip you with the skills to capture life images in beautiful charcoal.

Minimum entry requirements

  • There are no minimum entry requirements for this Summer School.  You need to have a basic level of competence in English as the course will be delivered in English. 
  • If you come from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) you need to follow the guidance provided for visas.

What you study

The summer school is designed to provide a platform to experience Scotland’s biggest and most vibrant city, Glasgow.  An afternoon visit to two local art galleries is included as is an optional day visit to Edinburgh to visit the National Portrait Gallery and to take advantage of the city’s many excellent gallery locations. 

CONTINUING STUDY

You will be able to find out about other part-time and full-time courses provided by the College that may be of interest such as Art and Design/Graphic Art Portfolio at NC level or HND Illustration.

Additional Information

Materials

You will be supplied with both Willow and Compressed charcoal, erasers, drawing paper, drawing boards and easels.
