A commercial makeup artist needs to have a broad range of common skills, but can specialise in different types of makeup and application techniques in order to give a polished, flawless finish to any given brief.

They will be expected to demonstrate their skills as makeup artists within dynamic and challenging media environments, working on precise briefs, against demanding time restraints and within limited working space

Overview

The competition focuses on the role and tasks of a Commercial Make Up Artist, working to a given theme, demanding creativity and imagination, excellent attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure - all whilst demonstrating patience, concentration and good time management.

As a competitor, you will also be tested on health and safety, exceptional client care and your knowledge about fashion trends, makeup techniques and products.

This WorldSkills UK competition showcases the values, behaviours and attitudes required to work in Confectionery and Pastry. This includes carrying out a range of tasks that reflect both modern and traditional patisserie.

CULINARY ARTS

Culinary Artists have a good knowledge of all aspects of a modern kitchen including basic butchery, fishmongery and bakery, along with good cookery and presentation skills.

Responsible for the high-quality production of food served to customers in a retail dining situation; Culinary artists work with raw ingredients to create complex and intricate dishes to be served to customers. They may also be responsible for the creative aspect of compiling a menu.

This competition assesses the skills and abilities of competitors entering the field of Culinary Arts. Candidates will be expected to have a good grounding knowledge of all aspects of a modern kitchen, along with good cookery and presentation skills and be familiar with the core competencies.

Creative Media Make Up artists use the human body as a canvas to create a desired character or appearance through the skillful use and application of makeup and prosthetics under strict time constraints. They need to have a range of common makeup artistry skills including special effects and theatrical as well as high fashion and spend hours developing their model into the desired finished product.

The competition focuses on the role and tasks of a Creative Media Makeup Artist, working on a given theme over a number of hours using the specialist skillset needed for the creative industry sector.

As a competitor, you will be asked to interpret the brief to produce an original, creative, and a technically accurate visual representation. You will also be assessed on your knowledge and understanding of relevant physiology and anatomy, health and safety, cosmetic products and equipment and your exceptional client care.

Competitors will be expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control through a variety of practical exercises.

RESTAURANT SERVICE

For a memorable meal, the quality of the service is something that guests often remember as much as the food and drink served.

This means that restaurant servers must show extensive knowledge of all types of cuisine and dishes, especially the ingredients and cooking style of the dishes on an a la carte menu. They will need to know and understand the methods of preparation and serving, along with the tools used.

Overview

This competition focuses on the role of Front of House staff in a range of Food and Beverage Operations.

Competitors should have good practical skills and a sound understanding of different styles of food & beverage service; formal & casual dining, table, table theatre, gueridon & silver service, cocktail & mocktail preparation & service, as well as knowledge & appreciation of wines, liqueurs & spirits.

Competitors in Professional Restaurant Service must also be able to display good social skills, excellent personal presentation as well as safe & hygienic working practices.

The competition has been designed to reflect the practical skill set a visual merchandiser must employ, encompasses styling product, decal use, painting, prop making, graphics, and lighting.

Within the competition, all these components must be implemented together to produce a balanced and eye-catching display.
