College Board and Governance
The Board of Management was established under the provisions of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992. The Board is the governing body of the College, responsible for setting the institution’s strategic direction and for monitoring its performance.
The Board consists of a maximum of 16 members, including the Principal, 2 Staff members (teaching and non-teaching) and 1 Student Member. The remainder comprise those with experience in industrial, commercial, professional or employment matters.

Paul Little
Biography Paul is Principal and Chief Executive of City of Glasgow College. Preceding the merger he was Principal and Chief Executive of Central College Glasgow from 2007. Prior to this, he was Acting Director & Chief Executive of Southern Regional College in Northern Ireland, Principal & Chief Executive of the Queen’s Award winning Armagh College of Further & Higher Education and Principal of Limavady College. He has 23 years experience in Further Education. Internationally he has worked with the South African and Lithuanian Governments and has represented the UK at the 15th Commonwealth Ministers Summit and at the US Community Colleges Convention. Paul’s first degree was in Fine Arts. He has also studied at postgraduate level in leading business schools, including Warwick, Cranfield, and Harvard. In his leisure time Paul is committed to the sea. After 30 years distinguished service in Coastguard Search and Rescue he retired in 2010. As a qualified yacht skipper, he recently sailed his yacht from Northern Ireland to Portugal. |

Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh
Biography Tasmina qualified as a solicitor in 1997 and is a partner in Hamilton Burns WS Solicitors and heads up their private client and conveyancing department. Tasmina won Scottish Asian Businesswoman of the Year at the 2010 Scottish Asian Business Awards. Tasmina is a producer for Elysee Productions International, a highly successful company that produces TV programmes geared towards an Asian audience with an audience of approximately three billion. Tasmina is also an accomplished actress and has played leading roles in many major TV shows. Tasmina is Chair and Founder of the Scottish Asian Women’s Association which is an organisation driven by professional and entrepreneurial Asian Women in Scotland. This Network draws upon its wealth of leadership skills, innovation and knowledge with a view to enhancing members’ personal and professional development and assisting those Scottish Asian Women in need of support, guidance and mentoring. The Association aims to inspire increased participation by Asian women in public and political life as well as celebrating and recognising their successes. The Association was officially launched by the First Minister of Scotland at Stirling Castle on 19th April 2012. Tasmina is also Co Vice Chair of W1 (Women First) which is a steering group set up for Minority Ethnic Women in Scotland, being facilitated by the Scottish Government. |

Douglas Baillie
Biography Douglas is very experienced banker with Clydesdale Bank who has enjoyed diverse roles over 28 years across commercial banking, compliance, liquidity and learning and development. He is currently responsible for bank’s Education Sector across the UK. Douglas has experience at board level in a number of sectors and has experience of supporting the Scottish Further Education Unit (now Scotland's Colleges). In his spare time you can find Douglas at Glasgow Green supporting his wife and three daughters, who are all keen rowers and on the odd occasion he escapes to the golf course |

Alisdair Barron MBE
Biography Alisdair has a wealth of experience as a human resources and industrial relations specialist in the avionics, brewing, leisure and soccer industries, civil service and National Health Service; as a director of two national youth employment and skill development charities and as chair, chief executive and president of three European paediatric palliative care charities . He is the longest serving member of Scotland’s Children’s Panel. He received an MBE in 2006 for his work with sick children in Romania. |

Peter Finch
Biography Peter is a retired lecturer who taught at Rochdale College, Sheffield Polytechnic and Glasgow Caledonian University. Peter taught Government, Politics, and Management in the Public Sector before moving into management as a senior assistant principal. Peter has a wealth of experience in the further education sector as a member on the boards of Glasgow Building and Printing College, and Glasgow Metropolitan College. He was also a member of the Scotland's Colleges Board. |

Jim Gallacher
Biography Jim is Emeritus Professor of Lifelong Learning at Glasgow Caledonian University, and Honorary Professor at the University of the Highlands and Islands and the University of Stirling. He established the Centre for Research in Lifelong Learning (CRLL) at Caledonian in 1999, and was co-director until 2008. He has managed a wide range of research projects including widening access and links to further and higher education and published numerous articles, reports and books on the basis of this work. Jim worked closely with the college sector over many years in developing links with universities. He was a member of the Scottish Funding Council from 2005-10, where he chaired the Access and Inclusion Committee. He was a member of the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies Board and now chairs the Scottish Universities Association for Lifelong Learning. Jim was an adviser to the Scottish Parliament's Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Committee for their inquiry into lifelong learning. |

Biography Charlie has 20 years of experience in internal audit across various public sector organisations. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors. She is currently acting chief internal auditor for a Scottish police force. |

John MacLeod
Biography John qualified as a chartered accountant in 1991. He has now set up his own practice where he works with SMEs, having previously worked with The Royal Bank of Scotland, Wylie and Bisset and as Finance Director of Loganair Ltd. In 2000 he joined the Board of Glasgow College of Building and Printing before being appointed as an inaugural member to the Board of Glasgow Metropolitan College four years later. John has been chairman of Glasgow Junior Chamber of Commerce, vice president of Junior Chamber International, chairman of the JCI Audit Committee, Deacon of the Incorporation of Bonnetmakers and Dyers, and Director of Merchants House of Glasgow. |

Rt Hon Henry McLeish
Biography The Right Honourable Henry McLeish, a former professional footballer, began his political career in Fife, Scotland in the early 1970’s, working his way through the ranks of the Kirkcaldy District Council and the Fife Regional Council. Elected to the United Kingdom Parliament in 1987 he became a member of the Blair Government in 1997. As Minister for Devolution and Home Affairs at the Scottish Office from 1997 to 1999 he was instrumental in shaping Scotland’s first Parliament in almost 300 years. He was also responsible for Law and Order including the Prison Service. Elected to the Scottish Parliament in 1999 he was Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning overseeing Higher Education, industry, science and technology. He became First Minister of Scotland in 2000; taking responsibility for Scotland’s emerging role on the European and World Stage, leading official government missions internationally and implementing Scotland’s social and economic policies. He became a member of the Privy Council – an honour bestowed by Her Majesty the Queen – in the same year. He played a key role in the process of devolution, which returned key aspects of the legislative power and Government authority from the UK to Scotland. After 30 years in elected office, Mr McLeish retired from elected public office in 2003. During the last few years he has been a visiting professor and lecturer at a number of universities in the US, teaching European Union studies and UK Government and Politics. He has advised the LEED programme of the OECD in Paris, the European foundation for the improvement of Working and Living Conditions in Dublin and is a Fellow of Edinburgh University. He has worked for the European Commission and CEDEFOP as a consultant and retains real enthusiasm for the EU. Learning & Education remains a very powerful interest. He is also involved in consultancy work and is a regular contributor to newspapers and broadcasting. And also writes a twice monthly column for the Holyrood Magazine. He was a member of the Broadcasting Commission, Chair of the Scottish Prisons Commission, both set up by the Scottish Government and is Chair of the Scottish Mining Museum and was recently Chair of the major review into Scottish Football. Included in his interests are the life and works of Robert Burns, Scottish and European History and the study of famous speeches. He is a frequent visitor to the USA and has now visited 41 states of the union in the last 20 years. |

Biography Colin’s career began with BP Shipping Ltd as a deck cadet before he worked his way up to Chief Officer with Sea Containers Ferries Scotland Ltd, joining Clyde Marine Training in 2004 as Manager. As Managing Director, Colin also sits on a number of maritime committees, is president of the Scottish Shipping Benevolent Association and was named Young Business Person of Year at the 2010 Glasgow Business Awards. |

Debbie McNamara
Biography Debbie currently works with Clyde Gateway Urban Regeneration Company where she is responsible for securing major property development and inward investment to act as a catalyst for the longer term regeneration of the Clyde Gateway area. Prior to this she spent 14 years working for the global real estate company Lend Lease where she worked on numerous large-scale retail, commercial and education projects. Debbie moved to the UK 13 years ago from Australia and over the past 8 years has adopted Glasgow as her home. She has a degree in economics and an MBA in construction and real estate. |

Biography Robert works as IT section leader at City of Glasgow College’s, Riverside campus. He is responsible for purchasing and maintaining ICT equipment and has line management responsibilities. Robert served as the support staff member on the Glasgow College of Nautical Studies Board from 2009. |

Biography David Stark retired as an architect at the end of 2010. David worked in both the private and public sectors in Scotland and London. When MD of Keppie Design from 1994 to 2008, the practice prospered on the back of the massive UK public sector infrastructure programme. In recent years David has obtained work in North Africa, the Middle East and China. |

Eric Tottman-Trayner
Biography Eric started his engineering career in 1963 and in 1971 he moved to the South of Scotland Electricity Board (SSEB) to work on the construction, commissioning and operation of Hunterston B. He worked at Torness and as a principal engineer for what is now British Energy Ltd. In 1999 Eric became a Technical Director with the Babtie Group, based in Glasgow and took the nuclear business from scratch to around $20 million in a little under three years. For family reasons Eric moved his work back to Scotland in late 2005 and worked at Hunterston A decommissioning site with a remit for project acceleration and innovation. During this time he completed his nuclear power plant ‘whole lifecycle’ training and developed a reputation for offering pragmatic solutions in the areas of waste processing and decommissioning. Eric was the Chairman of the Board of Management of Central College of Commerce from September 2003-September 2010. He is a musician and the proud owner of a Ramirez Spanish Guitar. |

Lesley Woolfries
Biography Lesley is an associate at architects Holmes’ Partnership in Glasgow. Lesley graduated from the Mackintosh School of Architecture to join the firm in 2001. Lesley works with numerous public and private clients, in the residential, commercial and educational sectors and has a particular interest in encouraging young talent in the construction industry. She served on the Central Scotland branch committee of Women in Property for five years and held the post of branch chairman in 2008. Lesley is passionate about sport, in particular netball, and has represented Scotland at World Championship level in New Zealand and Jamaica. |
