This course is for anyone looking to gain the qualifications required to apply for the NC Shipping and Maritime Operations course.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

To gain entry to the course you should have the following qualifications:

  • National 4 passes including Maths, Physics, or Technological Studies, or equivalent.
  • If you have left school and acquired other life skills which don’t meet the qualifications above, you may be able to gain access through to recognised prior learning of your skills.

You'll be invited to a group and/or individual interview where you'll get the opportunity to find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.

What you study

You'll study a range of subjects which will develop your skills in an academic and maritime context. You'll develop a range of skills and in subjects such as:

  • Mathematics,
  • Physics,
  • Maritime Skills,
  • Engineering Science,
  • Communication.

After the course

Careers

You'll be eligible to apply for the NC Shipping and Maritime Operations course which leads to the first stage of qualification as a sea-going Deck or Engineering Officer.
