Overview

Are you in S4-S6 and interested in a career in Engineering or Shipbuilding but unsure where to start? Why not join us on a bespoke NPA programme designed to give you an insight into the Fabrication and Welding sector while working towards a Level 5 National Progression Award?

This programme, delivered over one academic year will:-

  • Raise awareness of shipbuilding and the careers you can have within this sector#.
  • Provide work-based learning offer with taster sessions and work experience opportunities directly with BAE Systems.
  • Embed contextualised learning to enhance outcomes in relevant subject areas.
  • Provide work-based learning projects to develop meta-skills. 

Attendance Pattern

Tuesday and Thursday 09:00 – 16:00.

Entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements

Must be working towards or hold 5 National 4s including English, Maths (Applications of Maths will be accepted), Science or Technical Subject.

Places on this programme will be offered following an interview.

After the course

Careers

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be guaranteed an interview for one of BAE Systems' Steelwork Apprenticeship roles starting in August 2025.

Continuing Study

Graduates can progress directly onto Mechanical Engineering Programmes at City of Glasgow College upon completion of this course.

Teaching

How the course is taught

The course consists of practical, workshop-based projects complemented by classroom learning and an industrial visit.

Assessment methods

The assessment of practical subjects involves group projects and individual components produced in the workshop, while classroom subjects are evaluated through a combination of written assessments and reports.
